It looked like it might take a while for the Dallas Cowboys to get nose tackle Johnathan Hankins back on the roster. However, on Monday, there was hope that it would happen soon.
The Cowboys finally got it done on Wednesday as Hankins has signed a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.
Getting Hankins back into the fold is huge for Dallas.
Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn now has the space-eater on the interior of his defense to help with one of its weaknesses, stopping the run.
Before Hankins suffered a pectoral injury that cost him the final four weeks of the 2022 regular season, he help with limiting the run game of opposing teams. The Cowboys held running backs Dalvin Cook Minnesota Vikings), Jonathan Taylor (Indianapolis Colts), and Dameon Pierce (Houston Texans) all under 85 yards respectively with Hankins on the field.
This shouldn't stop the Cowboys from drafting another 1-tech defensive tackle in the NFL draft at all, especially with Hankins's deal only being for one season. However, it sets them up nicely at every spot on the defensive line in the meantime.
