Dallas Cowboys third-round rookie DeMarvion Overshown is ready to be a part of America's Team. Not only did he always dream of wearing the silver and navy but he's essentially a plug-and-play rookie in the eyes of one particular coach.

Maybe he'll have to wait for his turn on defense but his unique athleticism will likely make him an immediate starter on special teams.

"Based on his college tape, I feel like I can put (Overshown) anywhere on kickoff and he'll run down and make some plays," Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel told reporters last weekend.

The rookie out of Texas could go a long way in replacing the huge void left by LB Luke Gifford when he signed with the Tennessee Titans. Gifford led the Cowboys in 2022 with a 77% snap count on special teams.

"I think on the kickoff return I can put him on the front line, likely in Gifford's spot, and single him up with one of their best guys," added Fassel. "I think he'll be outstanding on punt, in protection and coverage, and he'll be outstanding somewhere in punt return."

Fassel's comments suggest what many had already speculated about: Overshown will play a huge role in 2023 even if he doesn't break into the defense's starting lineup as a rookie.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn likely loves what he's getting in Overshown. But make no mistake about it: Fassel will get to break out the team's new weapon in his unit first.
