The Dallas Cowboys take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Mike McCarthy returning to Wisconsin headlines the matchup. But, there are multiple storylines heading into the action.

Dak Prescott taking on Aaron Rodgers is certainly something to watch. The Cowboys defense against the Packers' run game is another aspect of the game that many will being paying close attention.

One that isn't being discussed too much is how the Dallas Cowboys will utilize Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott. Pollard is coming off a career game, while Elliott is set to return from an injury that kept him on the sidelines before the bye week.

Important decision for Cowboys

Tony Pollard ran wild the last time that the Cowboys suited up. He rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns on 14 attempts, looking the part of a lead back. Pollard was efficient and electric as the Cowboys defeated the Chicago Bears 49-29.

Yet, the Cowboys were reluctant to name Pollard the RB1 moving forward. That role still belongs to Ezekiel Elliott — who has had his bright moments this season, too.

Still, Elliott is not fully healthy. He missed the win against the Bears and did not practice at the beginning of this week. Additionally, Elliott was limited on Tuesday, too. Therefore, the logical thing to do would be to give Tony Pollard the lead back duties for at least another week.

Pollard has shown that he is capable of flourishing in the role, and that would allow Elliott to heal up even more. Dallas is a road favorite over the Packers, and the Cowboys have a legitimate opportunity to make serious noise in the NFC.

Playing a banged up Elliott against the Packers would be a mistake for two reasons. First, it would take opportunities away from a healthier and more explosive Tony Pollard. And two, it would potentially lead to a more nagging injury for Elliott as the hits add up.

The Dallas Cowboys would be wise to not rush Ezekiel Elliott back and to instead hand the keys to Tony Pollard this week. Dallas will need both at their best for the home stretch of the 2022 NFL regular season and beyond.
