The Dallas Cowboys' roster cuts are underway ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline to get the list down to 53 players.

The most notable cut so far is that of nose tackle Quinton Bohanna. A sixth-round draft pick in 2021, Bohanna became a well-known player when he started nine games last year. However, his release was predictable following two key events for the Cowboys on their defensive line.

Ahead of the 2022 trade deadline, the Cowboys traded for then-Las Vegas Raiders nose tackle Johnathan Hankins. Months later, the team would double down at the position by selecting Mazi Smith with the 26th overall pick.

Despite Bohanna's strong play in the preseason, it's just tough to make the numbers game behind a 53-man roster work by carrying three nose tackles on the team. There's just not enough snaps to go around at such a position and the team saw better play from Hankins last year.  As for Smith, we haven't seen him work versus a ton of one-on-ones, which is what he'll get when he shares the field with Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence instead of backups.

Following the news, Bohanna will be heading to waivers, where he could be claimed by NFL teams looking for some help in their interior defensive lines. In my eyes and based on how he played this preseason, he could be one of the best players the Cowboys release ahead of the deadline.

If he clears waivers, he could be a practice squad pickup for the Cowboys for depth purposes. Maybe, he could be a gameday callup someday if the game-planning calls for it, being that Dan Quinn showed some heavy looks with three nose tackles during training camp. We'd love to see it happen.
