Shortly after Dak Prescott had to exit the season opener versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jerry Jones provided the media an unfortunate update on the hand injury. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback needs hand surgery.
As a result, Prescott is set to miss multiple weeks.
"It's a significant hand injury," said Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy postgame per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
The injury occurred on a play in which Bucs defensive end Shaquil Barrett hit Prescott's hand on the quarterback's follow-through. It's worth pointing out that Dak's hand hit Barrett's own hands instead of the defender's helmet.
McCarthy also indicated the Cowboys QB had not seen a doctor at the time of the postgame presser which means there's limited information. Depending on the timetable, the Cowboys could be forced to make a move for an upgrade over Cooper Rush.
In the meantime, the veteran is expected to be the guy for the job.
The Cowboys are currently at the bottom of the NFC East with a 0-1 record after their three division rivals started the season off 1-0.
Also, offensive guard Connor McGovern is also set to miss multiple weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain. This could lead to even more changes across an offensive line that's got Tyler Smith at tackle and Jason Peters on the sidelines.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jayron Kearse also exited the game with an injury and was seen postgame in crutches, per Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News.
Monday will be a big day for Cowboys news as it's usually the day MRIs and following tests take place. Expect clarity on this unfortunate news.
