Dak Prescott was front and center in the spotlight, and he put on a show for the Dallas Cowboys. He was hitting on all cylinders and playing with a ton of confidence in a statement playoff victory over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prescott accounted for five touchdowns on the night. Given the stage, it's probably the best performance of his career to this point. The Cowboys' quarterback threw accurate passes, made plays in and out of the pocket, and operated the offense in impressive fashion.
It seemed as if Prescott was determined to get the win. Nobody was going to get in his way on Monday night in Tampa Bay — not even Brett Maher and the missed extra points. Dak Prescott was on a mission. And he delivered.
On the night, Dak Prescott threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns. He added 24 yards and a score on the ground, too. In the end, he had a hand in every touchdown that the Dallas Cowboys scored in the 31-14 win.
Elite company for Cowboys QB
Prescott joined elite company in the process. He became one of four quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era to throw four touchdowns and run for another in one playoff game.
The other three? Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Ryan — all of which have a Super Bowl and/or an MVP trophy on their résumé.
Furthermore, Prescott joined Peyton Manning as the only two quarterbacks to accomplish that feat while completing at least 75% of passes in the same game, per ESPN Stats and Info. The signal caller of the Cowboys completed 25 of his 33 pass attempts on the night.
“I’ve had confidence all along,” Prescott said after the performance. “I had no doubt that we were going to have a game like this, that we could be clean with the ball and I could be clean with the ball, obviously.”
Mike McCarthy was not caught off guard in the slightest. In fact, he expects Prescott to play as well as he did on Monday. Dallas will certainly need for No. 4 to be on his A-game for the remainder of the postseason.
“He puts the time in. He does all of the extra stuff and all the little things that are needed to be a highly-successful quarterback in this league. So, I’m not surprised at all that he responded," said McCarthy.
Dak Prescott has had his fair share of criticism throughout the season. He delivered in a monster way when his team needed him to in the playoffs. As a result, the Dallas Cowboys are advancing in the postseason.
