The New England Patriots are known for taking away your best weapon, something the Dallas Cowboys understood going into the game. For the offense to get going, Dak Prescott needed to find others beyond CeeDee Lamb.

During Sunday's win over the Pats, that was mostly tight end Jake Ferguson, who led the Cowboys with 77 receiving yards and seven catches in seven targets. That's as close as you can get to a perfect game for a tight end.

"It's no surprise to me as a guy that just loves the game of football,"  Prescott told reporters after the game. "Not many people in that locker room love the game more than Ferg does. He shows it each and every day with his preparation and the way that he approaches practice, with the extra time that he spends in the film working with (TE coach Lunda Wells)."

Ferguson's game was impressive beyond just the stat line. One of his catches came over the seam, forcing him to go up in the air to get it only to receive a big hit from a crashing safety. Ferguson held on for the critical catch for a gain of just over 20 yards.

That was one of seven targets in the game for Ferguson, with three others going for 10+ yards as well.

In the past, the Cowboys' red zone offense (an area in which they've struggled this year), the tight end position has been a massive point of emphasis. Ferguson might be a big key to solving those issues but he hurt the Patriots in many other areas of the field.

"He's a guy that has confidence through the roof, obviously you can throw it to him in tight windows and he's going to come down with the catch," Prescott added. "He's really just scratching the surface to a long successful career for him."

"It's no surprise to me and it's only going to get better," Dak promised.

Ferguson has shown at several moments of his young career that he has the makings to be a big-time weapon. Now, it's all about showing it consistently. Sunday was a huge step in the right direction.
