Dak Prescott won Offensive Rookie of the Year back in 2016. However, the face of the Dallas Cowboys is up for a much bigger honor in 2022.

For the third time in the last five seasons (2018, 2021), Prescott has been selected as the Cowboys' nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

The NFL's Man of the Year was established in 1970. This award is viewed as the most prestigious that the league has to offer, and it's given to the player that best exhibits outstanding philanthropy and community service as well as top-level play on the football field.

After his unfortunate death in 1999, the league renamed the award after Payton who was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 after a thirteen-year career with the Chicago Bears (1975-1987).

Prescott's Faith Fight Finish Foundation endorses cancer research, mental health, and suicide prevention. Also, it focuses on bridging the gap between law enforcement and the people in the communities in which they serve.

Prescott established the foundation to honor his mother, Peggy, who died in 2013 after battling cancer as well as his brother, Jace, who unfortunately committed suicide in 2020.

Each nominee will wear a special decal on their helmet for the rest of the season, and the winner will be given a uniform patch to wear on his jersey for the rest of his career.

During Super Bowl week, all nominees from each team will be recognized. The winner will be announced during the NFL honors ceremony that Thursday before the big game.

All of the nominees will receive a donation of $40,000 in their name to the charity of their choice. However, the winner will get up to $250,000 with funds from the NFL Foundation and the awards sponsor Nationwide.

If Prescott does win the award, he'll join some great company in the Cowboys organization. Past winners include Hall of Famers Roger Staubach (1978) and Troy Aikman (1997) as well as Jason Witten (2012).
