Dak Prescott led the Dallas Cowboys offense to a productive afternoon against one of the best defenses in the NFL on Sunday's game versus the New York Jets. En route to a 30-10 home win, the quarterback displayed a high level of football displaying one important trait: Efficiency.
Prescott completed 30-of-37 attempts for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns. For those who prefer advanced stats: He finished with a completion percentage over expectations of 11.7% and a remarkable 0.41 EPA/play (16.9 total EPA), per RBSDM.
In particular, Prescott's connection with CeeDee Lamb stole the show as the No. 1 wide receiver led the team with 11 catches and 143 yards. Despite a scoreless day, Lamb was the go-to on offense throughout the entire game. Eight different Cowboys players had at least one catch in the game.
The Cowboys will likely be unhappy with their red zone performance, though. Too often, kicker Brandon Aubrey came in as the offense settled for three. Mike McCarthy's offense went 2-of-6 in the red zone and even worse, 2-of-5 in goal-to-go situations. Credit where credit is due: The Jets' defense played tight coverage and plugged every gap in those clutch scenarios.
Other notes from the Cowboys win over the Jets
- The Cowboys offense got off to a great start, leaning on Tony Pollard and quick passes from Dak Prescott for a 12-play touchdown drive that was capped off with a touchdown catch from starting tight end Jake Ferguson.
- Micah Parsons continues to be unblockable. His sack on the Jets' opening three-and-out drive came off of a stunt that reminds fans of how his speed changes the game. No player gets home as quickly as he does off of that kind of stunt. DeMarcus Lawrence made a great tackle for loss in the same drive after being blocked by a tight end.
- The Jets fired back in the second quarter with a 68-yard touchdown for Garrett Wilson, who beat Stephon Gilmore's man coverage and forced a missed tackle versus the crashing free safety, Malik Hooker. The play made it 10-7 Cowboys in the second quarter.
- Brandon Aubrey was perfect for the first time in his Cowboys career. The first-year kicker made five field goals and one extra point.
