DaRon Bland did it. After a full week of talking about how the young Dallas Cowboys cornerback had tied the NFL record for most pick-sixes in a single season, it took him four more days to officially stand alone in league history.

On Sunday, Bland picked off Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell for a 63-yard touchdown.

The best part about it? He had to fight for it. Bland shook off tacklers on his way to the end zone as the play took long enough for the moment to settle in for fans. Midplay, everyone knew what was at stake. Bland was aware, too.

After the touchdown, Bland is the only man in league history ever to pull off five pick-sixes in the same season. He passed Ken Houston (1971 Oilers), Jim Kearny (1972 Chiefs) and Eric Allen (1993 Eagles).

Making things even sweeter was the fact that Bland was having one of his worst games yet before the iconic moment that could extend the conversations about him potentially winning D.P.O.Y. for the 2023 season.

During the Commanders' 75-yard touchdown drive, the only one of the game for the visiting team, Bland was consistently targeted by Howell. The defender gave up many yards in that one.
