The Dallas Cowboys had a field day gathering turnovers in 2021, leading the league with 34. Repeating such an accomplishment seemed completely far-fetched considering the length of time since it was last done, until now.

Dallas nearly put forth an identical production this season with 33 turnovers, which led the NFL, making them the first defense to lead the league in turnovers in back-to-back seasons since the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1972-1974.

It was an equal-opportunity effort for the Cowboys in terms of the turnovers they created. Their 16 interceptions were tied for the fourth-most, and the 17 fumble recoveries that tallied were ranked first.

The cornerback position did the heavy lifting when it came to interceptions, nabbing 10. Rookie, DaRon Bland, led the team with five, and Pro Bowler Trevon Diggs added three. Malik Hooker and his three interceptions were tops for all Cowboys' safeties.

Placing the ball on the ground for opposing offenses wasn't smart in 2022 around linebacker Micah Parsons and rookie defensive end Sam Williams who were tied for the team lead with three fumble recoveries. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong, linebacker Anthony Barr, and safety Jayron Kearse all registered two while five players grabbed one.

Every level of the Cowboys' defense played a huge role in this barrage of turnovers. So, a special shout-out needs to be given to the Cowboys' defensive coaching staff which is led by coordinator Dan Quinn. 67 turnovers in two seasons averages out to two per game which is an extraordinary pace to keep up for that long.

The Cowboys will take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday in the first round of the playoffs. Defense normally travels on the road in the postseason, so the Cowboys will certainly look to get a few extra possessions going up against the best on the biggest stage.
