The Dallas Cowboys didn't address their running back depth until the sixth round. Normally, that would likely be a situation where they were seeing if they could land a diamond in the rough.

Dallas ended up finding more than that.

Deuce Vaughn, an All-Big 12 performer in all three of his seasons at Kansas State, came to the Cowboys like a Christmas present in April. However, there was skepticism when it came to him making it in the NFL due to only being 5'5".

Vaughn got his first taste of real game action in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He took full advantage by gaining 50 yards on eight carries and catching three passes.

It was the way that Vaughn was making defenders look like they were trying to run on a hockey rink that made people go crazy last Saturday. But Kay Adams, formerly of NFL Network's Good Morning Football and current host of her show Up & Adams, reminded everyone that Vaughn isn't a stranger to this type of performance.

"I do think we're overlooking the fact that this is nothing new for him," Adams said. "This is what he did repeatedly through his two All-American seasons at Kansas State. And I know he's got the whole 'I'm short, let's not pay attention.' "He's 5'5", I don't care, I don't care, he's a short king.

"The league messed up by letting the Cowboys snag him, I'm telling y'all that. Y'all, 31 teams gon and messed up because they got him in the sixth round, a super value, and I think he's seriously going to press for reps in Dallas, in this offense, this year with Tony Pollard coming off an ankle injury."

Adams is right, this isn't anything new for Vaughn.

He finished his sophomore campaign at Kansas State with six consecutive 100-yard games, which included 143 yards in a loss at Texas and 146 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats' win in the 2022 Texas Bowl versus LSU.

In the two biggest games of the year for Kansas State last season, Vaughn was spectacular. He gained 130 yards and a touchdown against TCU when the Wildcats won the Big 12 Championship and another 133 yards and a score versus Alabama in a loss in the Sugar Bowl.

"This wasn't just a fun story of a likable college player having a nice preseason debut," said Adams. "This is a future star announcing his arrival under the preseason lights. Mark my words."

And that's all folks.
