The Dallas Cowboys are riding three consecutive wins ahead of the week five matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. It wasn't very long ago that there was panic surrounding the team. Now, the Cowboys have a shot to keep the momentum rolling.
Cooper Rush has played well in Dak Prescott's absence. The offensive line has stepped up, as has the receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and Noah Brown. Mike McCarthy and the coaching staff is pushing all the right buttons these last three weeks.
There is one specific trait that is directly leading to the success: speed. More specifically, defensive speed. The defense is flying around, getting after the quarterback, and performing at an elite level under Dan Quinn's coaching.
Dallas is the best pass rushing unit in the NFL. Micah Parsons is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Multiple defenders have emerged in important spots — like Dorance Armstrong, Donovan Wilson, and even Leighton Vander Esch.
Speed winning for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are flying to the football and stops all over the field. As a result, opponents are struggling to move the ball against Dallas. That includes Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
It has been impressive to watch. From the front seven to the defensive backfield, there appears to be a ton of speed and overall playmaking ability. Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs are two of the biggest game-changers in football, but they have not been alone for Dallas.
Dallas has yet to give up 20 points through four games in the 2022 NFL season. Additionally, the defense has only allowed four touchdowns to this point. The team speed is playing a crucial role in that.
“They’re the reason we’re winning. It’s plain and simple," quarterback Cooper Rush said following the victory over the Washington Commanders.
There's a lot of football to be played; however, it is evident that the Dallas Cowboys are overwhelming opponents with their defensive speed and playmaking ability.
