The Dallas Cowboys are in full draft mode with the 2023 NFL Draft suddenly just a month away. That means that the next few weeks will be about meeting with prospects and ordering the big board.
Fortunately, Dallas has used the offseason to already address important roster needs such as wide receiver and defensive back. However, the Cowboys could still add to those spots with high-quality prospects.
Mississippi State corner Emmanuel Forbes is the latest prospect that the Cowboys are set to meet with. And he is a prospect that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has to love thanks to his length and ball skills.
Forbes emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in college football while at Mississippi State. An All-American performer, Forbes totaled a whopping 14 career interceptions in three seasons.
He returned six of those picks back for touchdowns. There is no doubt that Forbes has the ball production and playmaking ability from the secondary that scouts love. So, it is no surprise that the Cowboys are among the teams interested.
The one big knock on Forbes is his weight. He measured in at 6-foot and 166 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier in March. That weight is a red flag for a player on the next level.
On a more positive note, Forbes clocked in a 4.35 40-yard dash. And he weighed in at 170 pounds at Mississippi State's pro day on Tuesday. His draft stock seems to be in that late first-round to early second-round range.
The trade for Stephon Gilmore minimizes the need at corner for the Cowboys. With that said, Emmanuel Forbes is the kind of prospect that Dan Quinn would surely love to have in the back end of the defense.
Dallas holds the No. 26 overall selection in round-one and No. 58 overall in the second. Perhaps Forbes is the pick at one of those two spots.
