The Dallas Cowboys made four additions on Tuesday. Maybe not the type of moves fans want to see as the NFL trade deadline gets closer and closer, however.
Instead, we're talking about practice squad signings. The Cowboys signed TE Eric Saubert, LB Buddy Johnson, C/G Chris Glaser, and OL Adam Pankey, per Michael Gehlken from Dallas Morning News. The news fills the team's practice squad entering Week 8 after having multiple spots open.
Before the news, the Cowboys' practice squad was sitting at 12 of the maximum 16 players that the rules allow. This is because over the last two weeks, the squad had seen plenty of movement:
- TE Sean McKeon was signed to the 53-man roster before the Cowboys' game against the L.A. Chargers.
- OL Sean Harlow was poached by the New York Giants.
- LB Mikel Jones and OL Alex Taylor were cut on Monday.
Now the team has added depth at the offensive line (Pankey played every OL position in the preseason, per PFF), linebacker, and tight end. The front office has been very smart with the way they've used the unit, elevating two players from it in each of their games.
Rashaan Evans, for example, is likely to be called up for the first time next weekend since signing with the Cowboys. The team could be looking for depth at several positions over the coming days to make the most out of their roster.
The Cowboys will return to AT&T Stadium next Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Rams.
