The Dallas Cowboys dominated the New York Giants on primetime television with a beating that started out with a 16-0 first quarter and ended with a 40-0 scoreboard.
The key to the game? The Cowboys' ravenous pass rush didn't relent once it was provided with a lead in the ballgame. In total, the attack led by Micah Parsons (who consistently drew double-teams) sacked Daniel Jones seven times while recording nine QB hits.
It was a non-stop seige over Brian Daboll's offense that called one pass play in 10 offensive snaps during the first drive of the game (wonder why?). Here's a crazy stat: Seven different Cowboys hit Jones with five getting a sack, another six recorded a tackle for loss, and five had pass deflections.
Other observations
- Juanyeh Thomas' breakout game! What a fantastic start to his season after fighting hard to be a member of the 53-man roster. In the first couple of drives, Thomas made a big-time tackle, got one pass deflection, and blocked a field goal attempt that his teammate Noah Igbinoghene returned for a touchdown.
- Osa Odgizuwha and Dorance Armstrong each recorded two sacks, tied for most on the team. Osa is certainly one of the most underrated players in the league and he made the most out of one-on-one opportunities throughout the game.
- The offense needs to clean up some stuff, particularly tight ends Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot, who had significant drops. Ferguson dropped a would've-been first down on third-and-eight. Hendershot's drop came in the end zone.
- Tony Pollard had a quiet yet very productive day, averaging 5 yards per rush attempt in 14 carries (70 yards) and two touchdowns. He added another 12 as a receiver.
- KaVontae Turpin, whom the Cowboys have made a conscious effort to involve, scored a rushing touchdown in the second half.
- Brandon Aubrey's NFL debut included two field goals and three extra points but he did have one miss in his first PAT attempt. Chalk it up to rookie nerves but he's one to monitor closely.
