One thing is for certain when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones will always put on a show verbally. From his unusual analogies to hyping up every Cowboys team as if the glory days of the 90s never stopped, Jones is certain to say something outlandish at any given moment.
That wasn't the case on Thursday. It's been well documented with injuries to Michael Gallup and James Washington that the Cowboys could use a veteran presence at receiver in the building. The often outspoken Antonio Brown told Jones to call him last week. However, Jones debunked that notion quickly.
The young guys he is referring to are third-round pick Jalen Tolbert, undrafted free agent Dennis Houston, and former USFL MVP KaVontae Turpin. All three have made plays continuously during camp, providing a hopeful future for the depth of the receiver position with the Cowboys going forward.
In the past, Jones would have likely jumped at the chance to sign Brown. With Brown's divisive personally, that wouldn't be wise at this point for Jones to do. The Cowboys already have enough outside noise from being the most popular team in the NFL so distractions are plentiful, especially with Jones providing headline news with his takes, and Brown would only amplify that.
Jones once said that there wasn't a check too big for him to write to bring another Super Bowl to the Cowboys. If he were to use that same philosophy with Brown, the check would likely bounce.
Good thinking here, Jerry.
