On Saturday, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Antonio Callaway was arrested during a stop for speeding in a car in which he was a passenger in Miami, Florida.

After identifying himself, Callaway was arrested as he "had a warrant for driving with a suspended license and failing to pay," per Fox Sports 640's Andy Slater. You can read more details on the arrest here.

From a football perspective, the recent news leaves the Cowboys face-to-face with an incredibly easy decision to make: It's time to move on from Callaway.

Now, granted, it's certainly not a very serious offense from Callaway compared to other Cowboys players who have been involved in far worse stuff in recent years. Just think about last year's Kelvin Joseph's off-the-field issues after being a passenger in a car from which lethal shots were fired. That's obviously worse and I'm not here to argue the contrary.

But as difficult as it is to admit as fans of the NFL, most of the players in the league that get into trouble usually stick around (or not) based on what the player brings to the table. It's always a risk-reward management affair and whether he's talented or not, Callaway is likely not worth the risk.

He hasn't even played a down of regular season football since 2020 when he was targeted four times as a Miami Dolphin in five games played.

But more than any of that, it's Callaway's frustratingly long track record that should drive the decision here. Some weight should absolutely be assigned to the fact that the 26-year-old hasn't been able to stay out of trouble throughout his career.

Cowboys WR has a lengthy track record

Callaway has faced multiple suspensions in his NFL career including a four-game suspension in 2019 while in Cleveland for violating the league's substance abuse policy. When he was reinstated, he was waived from the Browns for being late to team meetings and practices. Another suspension was waiting for him after a second failed drug test, this time for 10 games.

Not to mention, Callaway was issued a citation on August 5th, 2018, for driving with a suspended license.

The Cowboys have given plenty of players second chances (and sometimes even more than that). But at this point, it's very difficult to keep finding reasons why Callaway is worth the risk for the team. With many talented UDFA wide receivers on the team, it's probably the right time to bet on the younger players with fewer off-field problems.
