Dak Prescott showcased against the Philadelphia Eagles what the Dallas Cowboys already knew. He put his mental toughness on full display in a masterpiece of a performance during a Cowboys victory on Christmas Eve.
Prescott opened the game with a horrendous pick-six. He casually lofted the ball into the air before Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat leaped into the air, grabbed the pass, and ran it back for six.
Dallas quickly fell behind 10-0 after the play, and the pressure to respond was on Prescott. And he more than responded.
After that play, the Cowboys' passer played magnificent football. He read the field well, delivered accurate passes to his receivers, and took over the football game. Prescott had his way with the Eagles defense, throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Furthermore, Prescott went 25-of-32 passing for 332 yards, three touchdowns, and recorded a 141.6 passer rating immediately following the opening-drive blunder. Not too shabby.
“I don’t know if you can respond any better," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said about Prescott following the game. "Adversity is something that he eats for lunch.”
Dak Prescott does not flinch. Even when he makes a mistake, he has the mindset to not get flustered and instead more than make up for it. He really demonstrated that in a game that the Cowboys fell behind by 10 points twice on Saturday in AT&T Stadium.
Prescott is built for adversity
Furthermore, the third-and-30 conversion to T.Y. Hilton was the highlight of Prescott's performance. He put the ball on the money and put his team into position to win the ball game. It was Hilton's first catch since signing with the Cowboys.
“(The 52-yard catch) sparked us," Hilton said. "If I’m able to do that, the sky’s the limit for us.”
Moments like that and performance like Saturday are why the Dallas Cowboys can make noise in the playoffs. The team has its flaws, but Prescott is the kind of quarterback that the locker room rallies behind.
Overall, Dak Prescott had an epic performance in an epic game. His mental toughness and overall game will have the Dallas Cowboys in position to make a deep run in January.
