Dallas Cowboys versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dak Prescott versus Tom Brady. The primetime stage is set for the Cowboys' season opener on Sunday night in AT&T Stadium.

Prescott was playing at an MVP-level prior to injuring his calf at the midway point of last season. His accuracy was on point, confidence was high, and the execution was nearly flawless.

In his first game back from injury in 2021, Prescott put on a strong performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prescott threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns against the then-reigning Super Bowl champions.

He was hitting on all cylinders as he dissected the talented Bucs' defense. It was as if Prescott never suffered a gruesome injury or missed any games.

This time around, Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys will be without key weapons Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson. Cooper went for 13 catches, 139 yards, and two touchdowns in last season's matchup. Wilson added three catches for 24 yards.

Additionally, Michael Gallup will not be in action. Gallup hauled in four catches for 36 yards in week one last season. He is always a downfield threat, which opens up other areas of the offense. That dynamic will be missing on Sunday.

That goes without mentioning the question marks surrounding the offensive line.

Dak has success against Bucs

Fortunately, CeeDee Lamb totaled seven catches for 104 yards and a score in what was a bit of breakout performance against the Bucs last year. Furthermore, Dak Prescott has a proven track record of success versus the team from Tampa:

There's much more that goes into winning and losing than completion percentage. Still, the numbers are evidence that Prescott has found success throwing the football when playing the Buccaneers.

Whether that results in a win or not on Sunday remains to be seen. However, it is clear that Dak Prescott will be comfortable playing against the Dallas Cowboys' week one opponent inside AT&T Stadium when the season kicks off.

Brady speaks on Prescott

Furthermore, Tom Brady spoke highly of Dak Prescott ahead of the game. The future Hall of Famer credited the Cowboys' quarterback and said that he has done "an amazing job" since taking over for Tony Romo.

“I love everything that Dak's done since he's been the quarterback," Brady said. "I watched him his rookie year, he led the team to a great record. Never let any of the success get to his head. He's done an amazing job.”

Sunday night will feature a showdown between two of the best signal callers in football. Get your popcorn ready.
