The Dallas Cowboys concluded the first of two joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday. As usual, one of the main goals of these sessions is to leave as healthy as you came in.

That probably explains why the Cowboys are resting starting wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who's dealing with a cut foot. According to Michael Gehlken from Dallas Morning News, "injury" could even be a strong word for what Lamb is nursing and it shouldn't be a long-term concern.

CeeDee didn't practice on Wednesday and won't do so tomorrow either, per the front office.

Injury at CB provides an opportunity

One injury that Cowboys Nation will want to monitor is that of starting nickel cornerback Jourdan Lewis. The 26-year-old veteran tweaked his hamstring during practice and will continue to be evaluated, per Gehlken.

Based on the video below, Lewis appears to have hurt himself running downfield trying to defend the deep ball by Justin Herbert.

If Lewis misses significant time, it will be interesting to see who emerges as a backup option at nickel. Although the Cowboys appear to have solid depth at cornerback, it is far from being well-defined.

DaRon Bland (a big winner from last weekend's game), Nahshon Wright, and Kelvin Joseph (both losers yet more experienced) are fighting to earn the fourth spot on the depth chart.

Israel Mukuamu, listed as a safety, has seen plenty of reps at nickel. He played in 70% of the defensive snaps versus the Denver Broncos, many of those at cornerback. As a player on the roster bubble, he could emerge as a surprise riser for the role. His path to the 53-man roster has been made tougher by Markquese Bell and others.

Injuries are never a good thing, no matter what the context is. But you control what you can control. Worst-case scenario, the Cowboys have an opportunity at figuring their cornerback depth out.
