Dallas Cowboys cornerback Stephon Gilmore was knocked out of the game during the first half of Week 18 versus the Washington Commanders.

After a trip to the locker room, Gilmore was unsurprisingly ruled out with a shoulder injury in the second half in a game that seemed to be in the bag as soon as Dallas scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half.

Fortunately, it seems like Gilmore's absence won't extend any further. Head coach Mike McCarthy said postgame that the former Defensive Player of the Year appears to be OK.

"He told me he was fine and he’d be ready to go," McCarthy told reporters via The Athletic's Jon Machota moments after his 12th win of the regular season.

“It popped out and they popped it back in place," Gilmore said himself via Patrik Walker from DallasCowboys.com. "It feels great now. I’m excited for next week.”

The Cowboys will surely need Gilly to be back soon when they take on the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.

After all, Jordan Love throws to a Top 10 receiving core, per PFF grades. If Christian Watson returns from a hamstring injury, he'd join Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks at WR, all of which have over 500 receiving yards.

Given how much man coverage the Cowboys play, Gilmore's health is of the utmost importance entering postseason play.  The former All-Pro has yet to miss a game this season after the front office bet on him via a trade back in March.

He's paid huge dividends as he's stopped the bleeding more than once against key opponents like D.K. Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, among others.

Between him and backup Nahshon Wright, the gap is too large for Dallas to experiment with it in a do-or-die ballgame. McCarthy's statement wasn't made after an MRI or anything like that, but it's not something a head coach would say if the training team wasn't confident about it.
