Case in point: The division hasn't been won, in consecutive fashion, since the 2004 season – or 18 years. The Philadelphia Eagles were the last team to repeat as NFCE champs when they won four straight titles from 2001-2004.
It is the longest streak in the NFL for any division in history and happens to be the longest active streak of such across the MLB, NHL, and NBA.
Many thought that it was the Eagles' year to break the streak and win the division this year, just like they did last year. And that looked as good as ever just a few weeks ago when Philly had an 72% chance of winning the division, per the New York Times' playoff machine.
But, to the Eagles' dismay, the Cowboys are now in a position to keep the streak alive.
With the Cowboys' albeit controversial win against Detroit, they now control their own destiny, and with a win in the final week against Washington; they will win the NFC East. And there's a great chance they do just that, as they're currently -900 favorites to get the job done.
This win would be big for a variety of reasons, but none of them would be more funny than keeping this absolutely ludicrous streak alive.
Cowboys have obvious reason why then can’t slow down one bit after beating Lions
There’s no room for mistakes.
