The Dallas Cowboys recently held their NFL Draft Day 1 Press Conference on Thursday night after making their first pick this year.
And well, to say it was amusing would be an understatement. The press conference was obviously centered around the recent first-round selection Mazi Smith, the defensive tackle out of Michigan. But owner Jerry Jones stole the show as he ended the press conference with an all-time quote.
It happened when Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com asked the panel of Mike McCarthy, Stephen Jones, Jerry Jones, and Will McClay the following question: "What were the conversations like with Dan Quinn, coming into the draft about Mazi Smith? How fired up was he about the pick?"
"Everyone is fired up about Mazi," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy responded first.
"Where did he have Mazi on our draft board? I'm not going to give them the d**n thing," Jerry Jones asked Will McClay, who essentially runs the team's draft. Those who tuned in to last year's presser might remember Jerry literally taking the Cowboys' draft board and showing it to the cameras and media members.
Will responded, "He was on the board in a position for us to pick him at 26."
Jerry would then answer the question more directly "Ok, 14. I think he was 13 or 14."
"Just because you said doesn't make it so, right?," asked someone from the crowd.
It was at this point that Jerry ended the press conference with a hilarious line: "Well I didn't give you the draft board, but he was that high. Man who gives a s**t, we got him."
Jerry Jones has been known to leak the Cowboys' draft board in press conferences. This is just the latest in a saga of funny press conference moments for the Cowboys owner.
