The Dallas Cowboys are always the center of attention, in large part sometimes because of what team owner Jerry Jones says. On Friday, he was at it again.

Jones made an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. When discussing fifth-year wide receiver Michael Gallup, Jones made an eye-opening comment.

"I expect to see more production, said Jones. "That's not in any way of drawing a line. He's that important to our offense. We've seen those outstanding 20-plus-yard plays. You bet we need to have him show up with the good stats."

Talk about things not to say.

Yes, this is the same Michael Gallup that tore his ACL in January and came back to action in Week 4 for the Cowboys against the Washington Commanders, nine months after his injury.

This was always going to be a gradual process for Gallup. It's usually around a year for any player to be back to their old selves coming off of an ACL tear. Gallup's efforts to get back this fast should be commended, but for Jones to say he expects big production right now just isn't realistic.

Gallup is a baller, so there will be flashes of his old self. That was seen when he scored a touchdown in his return and his toe-dragging reception a week later versus the Los Angeles Rams. However, to consistently be the player he once was will require more time.

The Cowboys signed Gallup to a five-year extension worth $62.5 million back in March. Naturally, as the boss, Jones should expect a return on his investment. The problem is that Jones isn't factoring in other circumstances, and in this case, it's Gallup's recovery from a serious injury.

This highlights a major failure for the Cowboys during the offseason. After parting ways with Amari Cooper, and knowing Gallup's injury situation, the Cowboys didn't do enough to sure up the wide receiver position. Yes, they drafted Jalen Tolbert and signed James Washington, but the former has barely taken a snap, and the latter is rehabbing a fractured foot.

Cowboys fans certainly can't wait for Gallup to return form. However, they and Jones will have to be patient, and Jones should just refrain from saying nonsensical things as he did here.
