The Dallas Cowboys season is getting ready to start, and a handful of players will have one more preseason game to make the team. Especially at wide receiver. A position that continues to be in question.
Highlighted by the Cowboys WR2 Michael Gallup. He continues to work his way back from a torn ACL after signing his five-year extension in the offseason.
Gallup has already indicated he won't play week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This left the door open to potentially start the season on the PUP list. Now, this is no longer the case.
Jerry Jones told reporters on Wednesday that Gallup won't start the season on the PUP. Great news for Dak Prescott, the offense and the team as a whole. First reported by Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
Reports from OTA's that Gallup was further along in his recovery than expected, making an early season start possible. Now it looks like his rehab is progressing to the point that the question at WR will be much less stressful.
Well, except for who else makes it.
Outside of CeeDee Lamb, how will the Cowboys shape the room? They kept seven last season. Players like Noah Brown, Jalen Tolbert and Simi Fehoko are all going to make the squad.
Plus KaVontae Turpin is showing too much explosiveness as a return man to let go, and head coach Mike McCarthy has seemingly confirmed so.
What does this mean for Dennis Houston, who continues a strong offseason? Is James Washington a potential PUP candidate? Will they risk losing a player by using the initial final round of cuts to clear waivers and put Washington in IR to keep other players?
However the Dallas Cowboys chose to finalize the WR room, having Gallup is a sigh of relief. When he comes back is TBD, but it's a positive sign in the right direction.
