The Dallas Cowboys will host the New York Jets on Sunday for their home season opener of 2023 and are hoping to get critical contributors back just in time to follow up on a dominant win: Left guard Tyler Smith and safety Donovan Wilson.
The Cowboys could very well end up getting their wish but it'll take all of this week to know for sure as we're talking about soft-tissue injuries. Our own Will Steele talked to an expert doctor about Smith's situation.
That being said, the opening injury report of the week lists them as non-participants in a team's estimation of practice since they didn't actually hold one on Wednesday. Check it out in full below.
| Player | Injury | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Game Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LG Tyler Smith | Hamstring | DNP | — | — | — |
S Donovan Wilson | Calf | DNP | — | — | — |
WR Brandin Cooks | Knee | DNP | — | — | — |
OT Tyron Smith | Ankle | Full | — | — | — |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Cowboys Injury Report Observations:
- Tyler Smith wouldn't have practiced today and the Cowboys should be hoping that changes soon. The Jets had three different players with at least five QB pressures – including John Franklin-Myers, who had eight – in Week 1, and getting a healthy offensive line is a huge boost to the offense.
- Brandin Cooks was added to the injury report with a knee injury as a "DNP." Again, with no practice being held, it's very tough to determine the severity of the injury but it's still not ideal at all. Cooks was one of the biggest additions this offseason and his playing should prove crucial against an elite defense like the Jets that has second-year CB Sauce Gardner. Bad timing, but hopefully, it's nothing to be worried about.
