It was a wholesome few minutes of conversation between Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson leading up to the former head coach's induction into the Dallas Cowboys' Ring of Honor.
Among many of the things that was said, Jones led it off by finding the exact word to describe Johnson's induction: "Right."
It's just right that Johnson's name is immortalized at AT&T Stadium after years and years of an overly-long wait. None of that matters now as a sold-out crowd gets ready to witness franchise history at halftime of Week 17's showdown between the Cowboys and Detroit Lions.
“I think we’re past on who gets credit," Johnson said to Jones and reporters. "The two of us working together made history. When I say working together, we talked every single day. I don’t ever recall, ever, us having a difference of opinion."
Speaking of communication, asked what they'd change about their complicated relationship if they could go back in time, Johnson was very straightforward.
"The biggest thing was communication," the two-time Super Bowl champion admitted. "When we are together, everything is fantastic. I think maybe the fourth or fifth year, we got apart a little bit where we didn't talk every single day."
When looking at their complicated history together, it's easy to believe Johnson's words. Both of these characters had strong egos, sure, but better communication would've kept this relationship from spiraling out of control.
Both men shared there's no regrets, however. While the two seem to be highly aware of their mistakes these days, they seem at peace with where they're at. So much so that on his very night, Johnson made Jones blush by putting all of the feud aside.
Asked if he'd go on the Ring of Honor himself as the one Cowboys' Hall of Famer to not be in it now, Jerry suggested he wouldn't pick himself to go in. He claimed it would be uncomfortable for him as the selector to pick himself.
"I'll be the first to say you need to be in the Ring of Honor," Johnson told a blushing Jones.
It was a small moment in a wholesome press conference that was roughly 30-minutes long but it was a telling one. The two parties behind an ego-fueled feud that shaped the Cowboys in the 90s (and beyond) have left it all behind. And they're perhaps closer now than they ever were. Things have been made right and both parties know it.
"I don’t think anyone can ever imagine what this means to me," a wide-smiled Johnson said of his induction.
Don’t forget about key aspect of the Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson feud
Cowboys fans love to leave it out.
