For the first time this week, we now know the official game status of the Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen who are dealing with multiple injuries.
Friday's injury report revealed Tyron Smith and Zack Martin carry no game designation for the team's Week 5 showdown versus the San Francisco 49ers. On Thursday's padded practice, the five starting offensive line fully practiced together for the first time all year.
In other words, barring any unexpected injuries, this is as official as it gets from now until the inactive list comes out on gameday: The Cowboys are set to play their best five linemen for the first time since the 2021 NFL season.
That's the biggest boost the offense can receive ahead of a game where they need to deal with Nick Bosa and the 49ers' loaded defensive line.
Four games into the season, the Cowboys have heavily leaned into quick game concepts, which allows Dak Prescott's short time to throw to mitigate pressure. Only 39.6% of his attempts take more than 2.5 seconds. That ranks 31st in the NFL!
That quick game, and quality offensive line play despite the injuries, has allowed the Cowboys to allow the third-lowest pressure rate, per Pro Football Reference.
Sunday will be the first time ever that Tyron Smith and Tyler Smith play left tackle and left guard simultaneously. Imagine what that will do for the Cowboys offense, especially knowing that Zack Martin is also good to go at right guard.
Holding up in protection will only enable Prescott to do what he's already doing well, even better. Explosives will be important, but that kind of grind-for-yards offense will be what the Cowboys need to beat the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
Cowboys Final Injury Report
Beyond the offensive line, Peyton Hendershot is listed as out after not practicing all week long. Sean McKeon is expected to be called up from the practice squad again.
