The Dallas Cowboys have opted to place the franchise tag on Tony Pollard. Such a move ensures that Pollard will be playing for the Cowboys for the 2023 season.

Dallas will be on the hook for north of $10 million dollars next season by tagging Pollard. The team still needs to figure out what to do with Ezekiel Elliott – either restructure his contract or outright release him.

Either way, it appears that the Cowboys are set on promoting Pollard to the full-time RB1 role. Which means you can all but remove a top draft prospect off the board for Dallas.

Texas running back Bijan Robinson is widely regarded as the best running back prospect in this year's class. NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah ranks Robinson as the No. 4 overall prospect.

And for good reason. Robinson is a special talent with game-changing ability. He is elite running between the tackles, has the ability to bounce it outside, and is dangerous in the open field. Additionally, he possesses 4.46 speed and is a difference-maker in the passing game

It seemed as if Robinson would be a realistic target for Dallas in the first-round. He's an in-state star at a position where the Cowboys could have had some real turnover leading up to the draft.

Instead, Dallas did not formally meet with Robinson at the combine. Which doesn't always mean everything. But it is worth noting, especially considering that Dallas will have Pollard back in the fold for another season.

Obviously, there is still time between now and draft day. Dallas may still see value in taking Robinson if he falls to 26. Passing on a talent like that would be difficult.

The smart money, however, points to the Cowboys going in a different direction. Placing the franchise tag on Tony Pollard is the biggest evidence of that.
