The Dallas Cowboys can take a page out of the Dallas Mavericks' playbook. That is because the Dallas Mavericks made a trade for All-NBA guard Kyrie Irving on Sunday afternoon.

Such a move comes as a bit of surprise and has caused shockwaves across the NBA. Irving recently requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets late last week. It didn't take long for the Mavericks to jump in and acquire one of the premier guards in all of basketball.

That brings us to the Dallas Cowboys. It's not apples-to-apples to compare the NFL to the NBA. Still, the Mavericks making such a splash is another reminder in how conservative the Cowboys' front office seems to be playing things.

Sure, the Cowboys did go out and trade a first-round draft pick for Amari Cooper ahead of the 2018 NFL trade deadline; however, the Cowboys then turned around Cooper last offseason for a measly fifth-round draft selection. When the team didn't need to.

With that said, it's become evident that the Cowboys are weary of making aggressive moves. That is smart in some instances, but it limits the ceiling of the team in the postseason. That much has been clear over the years with the same result occurring time and time again.

Cowboys need to go all-in

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is aware of the public perception and even recently addressed the issue. In his mind, the risk doesn't always lead to the reward.

"Anybody who thinks I won't take a chance, has misread the tea leaves. But I do think longer term. And I'm real hesitant to bet it all for a year," Jones said last week.

"There's a lot of things that can happen for that year. In essence, we're seeing a couple of teams (Eagles and Rams) that have had some real success putting it all out there and paying for it later."

The Dallas Mavericks have made their fair share of questionable decisions and moves over the years. However, the team did not flinch when the opportunity to pair superstar Luka Doncic with another all-star presented itself.

That is something that the Dallas Cowboys would be wise to look at. There is enough talent to make the playoffs. Yet, there is still more work to be done to push the roster over the top and get over the postseason hump.

Whether that means trading for another talent or being aggressive in the draft, something different needs to happen this offseason. Especially with needs at wide receiver and in the secondary.

It's time for the Dallas Cowboys to push their chips in and go all-in on a title. Such a move certainly worked for the Los Angeles Rams and is working again for the Philadelphia Eagles.
