Dallas Cowboys fans had to be excited about seeing Michael Gallup running routes and catching footballs on Thursday.

The veteran wide receiver has been out since tearing his ACL late in the 2021 season and is expected to miss regular season games this year. However, Gallup was back on the practice field on Thursday at the end of their second joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The starting wide receiver ran some routes and caught a couple of throws from Dak Prescott for the first time in a while (at least, publicly).

Below is a clip of Gallup doing his thing, with Dak Prescott (not in the video) being the one making the passes.

Gallup's timetable remains unknown but Todd Archer from ESPN has suggested the Cowboys could even get him back after one or two games. If there's uncertainty around that optimistic expectation, Gallup could find himself in Injured Reserve, which would automatically rule him out for four games.

Dallas will be in a hurry to get him back, though. Gallup is the isolated wide receiver on Kellen Moore's offense and his presence on the field will go a long way in dictating coverages. In the meantime, opposing defenses will heavily gravitate toward CeeDee Lamb, forcing the Cowboys to rely heavily on young, inexperienced players.

In his second and third years in the NFL, Gallup averaged 975 receiving yards per season and totaled 11 touchdowns in that span. Last year – his fourth season in the league – the former third-round pick played in only nine games and averaged 49 yards per each of them.
