The Dallas Cowboys finally kicked off their preseason action last Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They didn't win the game, but one position is stacking up victories.

Linebacker Damone Clark had a very solid rookie campaign in 2022 as he racked up 47 tackles in 10 games after having spinal fusion surgery. Well, he continued to build off that against the Jaguars.

Clark was credited with five tackles (four solo). However, it was the way that he was able to read and dissect plays quickly and shoot through gaps that were the most impressive thing.

The NFL is very fast, it's an uptick from the college. It seems as if the game has slowed down for Clark, and his natural football instincts and skill set are taking over.

Not to be outdone, rookie DeMarvion Overshown was also very active against the Jaguars. He logged six tackles (two solo), which tied Devin Harper for the most by any player at the linebacker position.

Overshown played with great awareness and speed as he roamed from sideline-to-sideline. When watching the film, there wasn't hesitation from Overshown. Once he dissected a play, he fired downhill, which is exactly what any defensive coordinator wants from his linebackers.

The Cowboys drafted defensive tackle Mazi Smith and brought back Johnathan Hankins to help with their run defense. With those two drawing double teams, it will keep guys like Clark and Overshown free to attack like heat-seeking missiles and force opposing offenses into long downs and distances.

Barring anything abnormal, Clark will be in the starting lineup with Leighton Vander Esch. Overshown, if he keeps playing at this level, will certainly be heavily involved in the rotation along with Jabril Cox, who also showed a few flashes against Jacksonville.

Dallas has put major resources into the linebacker position over the last three years, and the dividends are starting to show immensely.
