Michael Irvin is royalty when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. However, on Wednesday, the Pro Football Hall of Famer was pulled from any Super Bowl coverage by NFL Network or ESPN after a woman made a complaint about him.
“Michael Irvin will not be a part of NFL Network’s Super Bowl LVII week coverage,” said NFL media vice president Alex Riethmiller.
The alleged incident took place last Sunday in Glendale, Arizona in a hotel lobby after Irvin has dinner and drinks with a former teammate. The woman involved claims her interaction with Irvin was inappropriate.
“Honestly, I’m a bit baffled with it all,” said Irvin. “This all happened in a 45-second conversation in the lobby. When I got back after going out … I came into the lobby, and I talked to somebody. I talked to this girl. I don’t know her, and I talked to her for about 45 seconds.
“We shook hands. Then, I left. … That’s all I know.”
Irvin said that he went straight to his room once he got back to the hotel. However, the network says the video that shows that wasn't true.
“And then they showed it on camera, that I did talk to somebody. I talked to this girl for about a minute. I don’t know; they didn’t show it to me. They told me. And I didn’t see it,” Irvin said. “I don’t know what she looks like or anything. But that’s why they moved me. Because I guess the girl said I said something to her within that minute that we talked.”
Irvin admitted that he couldn't remember everything that happened that night due to having a few drinks, but he stands firm that what took place between himself and the woman who made the complaint wasn't anything out of line.
“I don’t really recall that conversation, to tell you the truth,” Irvin said. “We were out drinking. It was just a friendly conversation. ‘What’s up?’ I don’t even know. … I am totally perplexed.”
Further details are sure to come out about this situation which is an unfortunate one for Irvin.
