The Dallas Cowboys and Bobby Wagner always seem to be linked for one reason or another. This year wasn't the first one in which fans and media pointed to them as a potential fit.

Unfortunately, it won't be the first one in which nothing comes to fruition between both sides, either. According to current NFL free safety Quandre Diggs, Wagner is reuniting with the Seattle Seahawks on a one-year deal.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal is worth $7 million. Wagner, who will be 33 years old when the season starts, will return to the team that drafted him in 2012. He was a part of the iconic Legion of Boom defense and was named a first-team All-Pro six times.

His spin-off stint with the Los Angeles Rams might not have presented the win-now opportunity he likely expected but he remained one of the best defenders in the league. He was named a second-team All-Pro in 2022.

The Cowboys were likely out of the Wagner sweepstakes as soon as they inked Leighton Vander Esch to a new deal, despite the desires of fans.

But the latest NFL news makes it official: Wagner won't head to Dallas this season.

The Cowboys do need help at linebacker, though. Beyond Vander Esch, the team is significantly inexperienced at the position. Damone Clark had a solid rookie season, especially considering he came back from injury mid-season. He's currently the projected starter alongside LVE.

All of the top free agents at the position have signed by now. If the Cowboys are to sign somebody, it'll be unlikely to shake up the depth chart.

Remaining linebacker free agents:

  • Rashaan Evans
  • Anthony Walker
