Cowboys can fill an important need with recently released defender
Former second-round pick can help the Cowboys.
Over the last two seasons under coordinator Dan Quinn, the defense of the Dallas Cowboys has seen a major turnaround.
They have led the NFL in turnovers in back-to-back seasons, something that hasn't been done since the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970s.
As good as the Cowboys' defense is they need some more help at the linebacker spot.
Leighton Vander Esch was re-signed earlier this week and Damone Clark showed some promise as a rookie, but with Micah Parsons being more of an edge rusher these days, Dallas could use another body with Jabril Cox and others still being unproven.
Speaking of the Steelers, they released former second-round pick Myles Jack on Thursday for salary cap reasons, and the Cowboys should certainly entertain the idea of bringing him in.
Jack has the skill set to run sideline to sideline and shoot gaps against the run. Also, he has coverage ability which is certainly something the Cowboys need on the second level of their defense.
In seven seasons, Jack has started 95 of the 103 games he's played. He's had four years of over 100 tackles including each of his last three.
When Jack was entering the NFL draft in 2016, he made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show and said this when asked about playing in Dallas.
"That would be amazing," Jack said. "I would love to play for America's team."
The Cowboys just opened up quite of bit of salary space, and linebacker is a spot they need to hit. So, they should at least kick the tires on Jack.
