Cowboys set to meet again with versatile defender before the NFL draft
The Cowboys can’t stop talking to this promising prospect.
During the NFL combine in Indianapolis, the Dallas Cowboys put in quite an amount of time talking to defensive prospects.
They had meetings with edge rushers Byron Young (Alabama) and Derick Hall (Auburn) as well as cornerbacks Devin Witherspoon (Illinois) and Christian Gonzalez (Oregon) and others at both positions.
Dallas also spoke with a few linebackers. They had multiple meetings with DeMarvion Overshown of Texas recently, and now, they're set to have another with him next month before the draft.
Last week, Overshown talked about meeting with America's Team, and specifically, the man who would coach him if he's drafted by them.
“I’ve talked to the Cowboys a lot," Overshown said. "You know, Dan Quinn, I’ve seen him a lot around the Texas facility while I was there, so being able to chop it up with him here during formal interviews and then talking to them at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. That defense is amazing and being able to play along some of the other guys, it would be fun.”
When Overshown first came to play for the Texas Longhorns, Overshown played safety for two seasons before converting to linebacker.
That's when Overshown began to show how good of a college player he could be.
He had 134 tackles (13.5 tackles for loss), three sacks, two interceptions, nine passes defended, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in his first two years as a linebacker.
The 2022 season saw Overshown catapult his name up draft boards with 96 tackles (10 tackles for loss), four sacks, and five pass breakups, and was named first-team All-Big 12.
Overshown has a non-stop motor and shoots gaps relentlessly to bring down ball carriers. Plus, he has coverage skills as well being that he was a former safety.
Texas held its Pro Day on Thursday. Overshown produced a 36.5-inch vertical and a 10'6" in the broad jump. Added to his 4.59 in the 40-yard dash, it's not hard to see why he's considered one of the better athletes at the linebacker position coming out of college.
Overshown went into more detail last week about his formal meeting with the Cowboys.
“[We had] great meetings," said Overshown. "We really just watched my film. They talked about how they loved my relentless effort and there is a lot that they can do with me in their system. It was a great overall formal interview with them."
That's a great way to win Quinn over, in the film room.
Overshown is projected to be a Day 2 pick in the draft. Linebacker is a need for the Cowboys, and it's clear that Overshown has their attention.
