During the third quarter of the Dallas Cowboys' humiliating loss to the Green Bay Packers, I was already typing an opinion piece on why head coach Mike McCarthy was going to be fired as a result of another lackluster playoff performance.

I'm sure I wasn't alone in the sentiment as Cowboys Nation has been expecting an update on the future of the team since that inexplicable no-show from Sunday.

Well, we've got some clarity now thanks to Dallas Morning News' David Moore, who recently reported McCarthy is finishing season-end interviews on Wednesday.

"Jerry Jones will meet with McCarthy on either Thursday or Friday, two people with knowledge of the process said," Moore wrote in a recent article. "That meeting won’t just be about McCarthy. Prescott will undoubtedly be part of the conversation. The future of one can’t be discussed without the other."

Go ahead and jot that down, Cowboys Nation. McCarthy's big meeting with Jerry is taking place on either of those two days and fans should be getting an update soon.

It's worth noting that Moore, who's been the only reporter to offer information on when the meeting is taking place, makes the argument for McCarthy to stick around for his final year on his deal in his article. Could that truly be just his opinion or does he know where the franchise is leaning?

We'll find out soon enough but one thing is clear: It's not a simple decision. While the postseason failures can't be ignored, there's clearly something to be said about having the second-most regular season wins since 2021 and two NFC East titles to show for it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not enough. This team was supposed to be much better than it was last weekend and there should be no excuses at all for such a disastrous collapse. But assuring that they'll be better off with somebody else on the sidelines can also be wishful thinking.

For better or worse, we'll know what's taking place by week's end.
