Cowboys could certainly use a player like this.

It's pointless to have a capable starting quarterback without giving him the proper weapons.

When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, they have a true No.1 receiver in CeeDee Lamb. However, they're still waiting for Michael Gallup to get back to form after tearing his ACL last January, and the other receivers on the roster were putrid last season as a group.

That has made wide receiver a big need in the NFL draft for the Cowboys, and NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks recently has them selecting TCU's Quentin Johnston in the first round in his mock draft.

Brooks on Johnston:

The Cowboys must improve the WR corps to help Dak Prescott regain his Pro Bowl form. Johnston is a speedster with the big-play potential to take advantage of one-on-one coverage on the outside.

The Cowboys have running back Tony Pollard who is a speed demon in the open field, but he's the only offensive weapon that possesses that trait.

That's what makes Johnston an intriguing possible selection for the Cowboys because you can't teach separation speed at 6'3" and 208 pounds as he has.

Johnston does a good job high-pointing the football and provides quite the catch radius. Also, with his size and strength, he's hard to bring down, especially in the open field.

The Temple, Texas native made an impact as soon as he came to TCU.

Johnston hauled in 22 passes for 487 yards in 2020, and his 22.1 yards per reception average set a Big 12 freshman record. He would receive first-team All-Big 12 honors as a sophomore by tallying 33 receptions for 634 yards.

Last season Johnston was a first-team conference All-American again with 60 receptions for 1,069 yards and six scores.

For his collegiate career, Johnston averaged an outstanding 19 yards per catch.

The Cowboys should consider Johnston in the first round if any of the other receivers they have talked to at the combine aren't available.
