You've got to respect the fact that many XFL players are getting shots across the entire NFL after its 2023 season. From rookie minicamp invites to actual offseason signings, we've seen many players arrive at the league one way or another.
For a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, it's a return to the league he was drafted to play in the 2020 NFL Draft: Ben DiNucci.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, The Nooch is signing with the Denver Broncos after putting together a strong performance in the team's rookie minicamp.
Practice reps aren't the sole reason why the Broncos are taking a shot on the former Cowboys quarterback, however. As one of the only two XFL quarterbacks to have tested their skills at the NFL, DiNucci was a standout player in the revamped version of the spring football league.
The James Madison alum even led the XFL in passing yards while also throwing for 20 touchdowns (and 13 interceptions but hey, no risk-it no biscuit, right?).
With the Cowboys, DiNucci started a game as a seventh-round rookie back in 2020 while the team navigated a series of injuries at the quarterback position. The start was unspectacular but perhaps some pro experience helped DiNucci to become a solid backup project for Denver.
The Nooch will have to compete with Jarrett Stidham (who played well after the Raiders benched Derek Carr last year) and Jarrett Guarantano (a 2022 UDFA).
