On Wednesday, a calf strain injury to safety Donovan Wilson took over the news cycle around the Dallas Cowboys. Overlooked by many was the fact that defensive back Israel Mukuamu also exited practice with a hamstring injury.
Unfortunately, head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed on Thursday that Mukuamu is also expected to miss "multiple weeks." The Cowboys coach didn't offer an exact timetable, however.
As for Wilson, he's expected to miss four to six weeks according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
"We'll have a better gauge on (the injuries) once we get to Monday," McCarthy told reporters on Thursday.
The blow to Mukuamu comes at an unfortunate time as his versatility has proven he can be a significant piece of the secondary as a backup both at cornerback and safety.
In the Cowboys' playoff win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, Mukuamu had a dominant performance against Tom Brady's offense when shoved into a starting role as the starting nickel cornerback. His highlight of that particular game with a PBU when covering WR Chris Godwin on a slant route.
Izzy's elite length allows him to cover a lot of ground and he's made it clear he deserves a bigger role in the secondary. The thing is, Dan Quinn's defense happens to be loaded at the position.
The good news is McCarthy believes the two Cowboys defensive backs laid the foundation for a quick and efficient rehab.
"Both these men were voted to the workout awards," added McCarthy. "They put in a lot of time back at the facility during the five weeks off. You know they've done the work."

Coming out of High School, Mukuamu was deemed a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports and the 47th-best safety in the 2018 class. "I […]
