Cowboys: The next step in the Odell Beckham Jr. saga has arrived
The latest development in the on-going saga.
The Dallas Cowboys have been connected to Odell Beckham Jr. since the fall. It makes sense, given the fact that the Cowboys have a real need at wide receiver outside of CeeDee Lamb.
During the season, Beckham met with the Cowboys, Giants, and Bills to potentially join a roster for the playoff push. Instead, teams were wary of where Beckham Jr. was in his recovery from the torn ACL that he suffered in the Super Bowl while with the Rams.
Therefore, OBJ is still available on the open market. Now with free agency quickly approaching, the star wideout is reportedly holding a workout for NFL teams to showcase his abilities and potentially sign with a new team.
OBJ will hold the workout on Friday in Arizona, per a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Pelissero notes that Beckham is now 13 months removed from his surgery and is "ready to play."
It just so happens that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently addressed Beckham earlier this week during the NFL Scouting Combine. When talking to the media, Jones made it clear that there is still real interest in the Pro Bowler.
"He’s somebody that I have the same kind of interest that I had in him during the season," Jones said.
Dallas will more than likely add a wide receiver through the draft. Potentially in the first or second-round as the Cowboys look to surround Dak Prescott with weapons in the passing game.
But adding one pass catcher probably isn't enough for an offense that is lacking firepower outside of Lamb and Tony Pollard. Therefore, bringing OBJ in on a team-friendly deal would make sense.
Ultimately, this will come down to how comfortable the Cowboys are with Beckham's health and if the two sides can agree to terms that work for both parties. Nonetheless, we now have the latest development in the on-going saga.
Perhaps we have an answer to whether or not Beckham will be playing for the Cowboys next season soon after Friday's workout.
