Perhaps recent injuries made some people forget, but Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reminded them on Sunday. The guy can run the heck out of the football.
With 34 rushing yards and a touchdown via the ground to his name, Prescott was able to hurt the Bears like he hurt plenty of teams back in Mississippi State. And while offensive coordinator Kellen Moore certainly picked his spots, it's clear more of that can't hurt the Cowboys.
Prescott was on the move since the first drive of the game when the Cowboys faced third down and two yards to go from the Bears' seven-yard line.
There, Moore dialed up a beautifully designed read option that had Prescott faking the handoff to CeeDee Lamb and reading the Bears' defensive end to decide whether or not to hand it off to Tony Pollard.
Prescott decided to keep it with Dalton Schultz leading the way as the blocker to take out the cornerback as Prescott walked untouched into the end zone for the first six points of the game.
With an offense that has an offensive line that plays physical in the run game and a receiving core that features Lamb, Schultz, Michael Gallup and solid depth at tight end, adding the threat of the quarterback running the football can take the Cowboys' red zone offense to another level.
The same goes for third/fourth and short situations. Prescott also had an amazing quarterback sneak that went for 25 yards. Yeah, you heard that right. Great blocking up front and the Bold Bears leaving the A-gap unaccounted for led to that.
Later in the game, the Cowboys went back to the read option on a four-yard gain on first down in an RPO look they used multiple other times during the game. Including once where Prescott looked for the deep shot but was hit as he threw.
This was a massive game for many other reasons for Kellen Moore, including his creative replacement of 11 personnel. Hopefully, some of the things shown on the field stick around, including the willingness to run with Prescott.
