This is a tough time of the year for NFL fans because… there's nothing really going on (other than UFL signings!). But dear Dallas Cowboys fans, we now know when that will come to an end:
July 24th.
That is the official day the Cowboys are reporting to training camp in Oxnard, California, per NFL Communications.
Cowboys veterans and rookies will be reporting on the same day, contrary to the way other NFL teams like to do things. According to Michael Gehlken from Dallas Morning News, the team will be traveling to Oxnard on the 23rd, one day before the official reporting day.
Keep in mind, it takes teams a handful of days to have the pads come on but once camp kicks off, it really starts feeling like football season. While we await the date, let's dive into some of the top stories we'll be monitoring.
3 quick questions leading up to Cowboys training camp:
1. Does CeeDee Lamb report?
Chances are, barring any long-term deal done in the meantime, no. I'd expect Lamb's holdout to continue into training camp while he awaits his extension, which will likely be along the range of Justin Jefferson's deal.
Additionally, expect talk about a potential Dak Prescott extension to heat up as we approach camp. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently indicated the team could prioritize it over Lamb's deal.
2. What does the OL rotation look like?
The Cowboys will be replacing two starting offensive linemen in 2024 having lost Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz. But how will they go about it?
Expectation remains for them to bet on the team's young blood: Rookies Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe are projected to start at left tackle and center respectively. But given that they're rookies, they'll need to earn their place. I can't wait to see what the rotation looks like throughout the summer.
3. What does Trey Lance look like?
Finally, fans are set to take a closer look at backup quarterback Trey Lance, who remains a huge mystery entering his fourth year in the NFL. Can Lance do anything to generate some buzz?
Does he show progress after an offseason of working with Mike McCarthy and Scott Tolzien on fundamentals and the Cowboys offense, which is different from Kyle Shanahan's? We finally get to learn more about him.
