The Dallas Cowboys can call themselves big winners in Week 15 moments before they kick it off against the Buffalo Bills.
They have officially made the playoffs without even playing a down at the time of this writing.
Entering the week, the Cowboys were in a position to clinch a playoff spot just by beating Buffalo. However, they could also mathematically secure their spot depending on a combination of results from the noon and Saturday games.
In this case, the following combination of results, they made it in:
- Lions win +
- Packers loss +
- Falcons loss
While the Cowboys are in with a 10-3 record so far, the team likely cares very little about the development. The team is focused on overcoming a tough situation for win No. 11.
The Bills are a tough opponent with significant home-field advantage. They also happen to be quarterbacked by one of the best in the league, Josh Allen. On top of that, Buffalo is on the rise as they desperately fight for a spot in the playoffs themselves.
Beyond this week, the Cowboys are very focused on snatching the NFC East away from the Philadelphia Eagles, who control their own fate despite the fact that Dallas is currently first in the standings.
But for fans, it feels just a little bit better to know for an absolute fact that not even the wildest of developments can take their team off of the January schedule.
This will be the third consecutive year that Mike McCarthy takes the Cowboys to the postseason after and on-again, off-again run with Jason Garrett, who never took the team to the postseason in back-to-back seasons.
