The Dallas Cowboys had several things to accomplish on their off-season to-do list, and finding another cornerback was one of them. Most felt it would be the NFL Draft where the Cowboys made this move, but they couldn't wait.

Dallas traded for five-time Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore and gave up the equivalent of a bag of Doritos and a Sprite to get him (compensatory fifth-round pick). This was a surprising but extremely smart move by the Cowboys, and it gives them quite the trio at the cornerback position with All-Pro Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland alongside him.

Last week kicked off OTAs for the Cowboys. Of course, given that he's such an important addition, eyes were on Gilmore and how he looked against the plethora of viable threats the Cowboys have in the passing game.

"Stephon Gilmore wasted no time getting his hands dirty in practice, routinely being moved around to defend different receivers – obviously beginning with CeeDee Lamb and on more than one occasion against Michael Gallup, but also against fellow newcomer Brandin Cooks. The former Defensive Player of the Year looked sharp against the 1,000-yard receivers,  delivering a couple of PBUs in the process."- Patrik Walker, DallasCowboys.com

This is the perfect setup for Gilmore to keep his skills refined.

Lamb is a wizard in the slot, and his constant improvement in route running will keep Gilmore on his toes. Cooks can utilize his speed vertically or horizontally which is good for things like change of direction. Gallup likes to high-point the ball and make contested catches so Gilmore can get work on the more physical aspect of playing the cornerback position.

Don't let the age fool you, Gilmore is still highly productive.

Last season with the Indianapolis Colts, Gilmore had a career-high 66 tackles, snagged two interceptions, and logged 11 pass breakups. This was after Gilmore had a procedure done to repair the meniscus in one of his knees which lingered for years.

Gilmore will be the CB2 for the Cowboys opposite Diggs which will push Bland to the slot. Now, the Cowboys have three guys that can bottle up receivers which wonders for the pass rush because if nobody is open there are more opportunities to get pressures and sacks which disrupts the flow of an offense.
