It's been around a year now that the Cowboys have been linked to linebacker Bobby Wagner, in large part due to his ties to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn from his days with the Seattle Seahawks.
After the Cowboys were unsuccessful in their attempt to acquire him, Wagner signed a five-year deal worth $65 million last March with the Los Angeles Rams which was too rich for Dallas. However, after a mutual agreement, Wagner was released after one season in February.
The rumblings of Wagner joining the Cowboys started immediately, and they picked up even more steam with the financial maneuvering done in Dallas over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, respected Cowboys insider, Bryan Broaddus, says the Cowboys won't be pursuing Wagner for 2023.
Dallas re-signed Leighton Vander Esch last week to a very team-friendly deal. However, with the uncertainty outside of him and second-year prospect Damone Clark, many felt Wagner could come in as a veteran presence that still has some juice left in his cup.
It appears now that the NFL draft will be where the Cowboys fill this need, and they undoubtedly need to with Micah Parsons being more of an edge rusher these days. Also, they'll look to see if Jabril Cox can finally get his wheels going after just 45 defensive snaps played in his first two seasons.
