The Dallas Cowboys sit with a 10-3 record and on track to clinch a playoff berth for the second straight season. Still, the front office knew that the roster still had areas that needed to be upgraded ahead of the postseason run.
Dallas traded for defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins before the trade deadline earlier this season. The move was made to improve the run defense. This week, the Cowboys went out and signed a wide receiver to bolster the passing game.
While it was not Odell Beckham, the Cowboys added a potential weapon in T.Y. Hilton. Hilton is a veteran receiver that has made a career out of getting open and being a trusted target for signal callers.
The former Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl receiver has the ability to make the Cowboys more dynamic on offense. Therefore elevating Dak Prescott as the Cowboys look to make a deep run. That makes this a low-risk, but high-reward, acquisition.
Cowboys adding to Prescott's disposal
Dak Prescott struggled for much of the win over the Houston Texans. Then, he turned it on in a big way with the game on the line — leading a 98-yard game-winning drive. It probably isn't a coincidence that the Cowboys wasted no more time in adding another pass catcher.
Hilton should be able to help the Cowboys attack zone defenses in an effective way. He knows how to get open and where to sit down in open spots for the passing lanes. That, as a result, makes the Cowboys more difficult to defend.
He still has speed that can hurt defenses down the field, too. Dallas needs another receiver that can stretch the field vertically, and Hilton has the juice in that regard.
Dak Prescott is as good as it gets as beating man-coverage. By getting a zone-beater like Hilton, the Cowboys have the solution to attack defenses when they drop into zone coverages.
As a result. the Cowboys have more firepower to make a deep run.
“I feel like (the Cowboys) got all the pieces," Hilton said about Dallas contending for a championship.
This move was made for Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys have the pieces to make a postseason run, and the move to add T.Y. Hilton to the roster gives the team even more talent to work with.
