NFL insider asks sneaky question that could sink Cowboys' season

The NFL -as well as the sports world- is all about star power and the Dallas Cowboys have plenty of it.
As great and important as it is, one can argue that having good depth is just as important. Especially in a game of attrition like football.
And when it comes to the Cowboys' depth there are more questions than answers.
"I think the one question I have is do they have the role players to run their system," ESPN's Jeff Darlington said on the latest episode of NFL Live. "… They're going to be looking for a new starting tight end to really stand out this season. They're going to be looking for depth beyond Tony Pollard, assuming that he can even stay healthy coming off this injury as a three-down back. They have obvious talent across the board, the question is do they have the depth at the necessary positions to run their system.
"They might. I'm not saying they don't, but that, to me, is the biggest question, here. Not the star power – but the role players on this team."
There are a lot of depth questions, indeed. The Cowboys have a solid trio at wideout, but we're still waiting to see if Michael Gallup returns to form after his ACL injury. Behind those three, there's not much to like. Jalen Tolbert holds a lot of potential, but he had a very disappointing rookie year and it's unclear how he bounces back.
Tight end is in full youth movement as second-year Jake Ferguson and rookie Luke Schoonmaker will likely lead the way. Behind them is second-year UDFA Peyton Hendershot and not much else. Behind Pollard is all question marks: even veteran Ronald Jones II, who is on his third team in as many years.
There are also questions at defensive tackle, linebacker and even corner, to an extent.
Someone is going to get hurt and miss a lot of time. It's even likely multiple players will. That's just the game of football.
So, it's imperative the Cowboys find a way to answer their depth questions. Because if they don't, then the 2023 season could certainly go awry just like it did back in 2020.
Multiple ESPN analysts agree Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy faces a do-or-die year
At this point, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy should be used to feeling the heat every offseason. It seems like a yearly conversation ever since he took over as head coach back in 2020. First, it was the 6-10 record (thanks to Dak Prescott's awful injury) that had people questioning his future. Then it […]
