The Dallas Cowboys are 7-3 heading into Week 12 following a dominant win over the Carolina Panthers. Every week, we'll be exploring the team's playoff picture within the NFC.

Cowboys' playoff picture if the season ended today…

  1. Eagles (9-1)
  2. Lions (8-2)
  3. 49ers (7-3)
  4. Saints (5-5)
  5. Cowboys (7-3) Wild Card
  6. Seahawks (6-4) Wild Card
  7. Vikings (6-5) Wild Card

The Cowboys would visit the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round if the playoffs began today. They jumped the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11 with their win over the Panthers and Seattle's loss to the L.A. Rams, which is important considering the sixth seed (Seahawks as of today) would visit the San Francisco 49ers in the first round.

Instead, the fifth seed is virtually guaranteed a game against an NFC South opponent, one of the worst divisions in football. Climbing to the conference's #5 seed is a significant win for Dallas.

Can Dallas win the NFC East?

The Cowboys needed the Kansas City Chiefs to help out on Monday Night Football when they took on the Philadelphia Eagles. They didn't.

Instead, the Eagles pulled off an impressive 21-17 road win, improving their record to 9-1. At 7-3, the Cowboys probably need Philly to lose three games (including Week 14 in Dallas and win out themselves to steal the division title.

Per DVOA, the Eagles' odds of winning the division jumped from 73% before Monday night all the way up to 83%. Yup, a 10% jump! Chances are Dallas is playing as a Wild Card in January even if they get the win in Week 14.

Will the Cowboys make the playoffs?

That's pretty much a fact. The Cowboys have a 98% chance of making the postseason, per DVOA. You can take that to the bank: There will be playoff football for the Cowboys.
